C.L. Domel
Founder/CEO
C.L. Domel began his welding career in 1978 at Westinghouse Electric in Round Rock, Texas, where he was certified in SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, Torch Brazing, and Induction Brazing. After five years of working at Westinghouse, C.L. launched his fire fighting career with the City of Round Rock Fire Department in 1984, and recently retired as a Captain/Arson Investigator after twenty-six years of service. He has maintained his certifications by taking the required continuing education courses for Master Fire Fighter, Master Fire Instructor, Master Fire Inspector, Master Arson Investigator, Fire Officer I/II, Fire Safety Officer, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
Approximately in the same time frame, C.L. spawned his own welding business, D and D Specialty Services, LLC., in 1984. In 1987, he began his welding inspection and nondestructive testing career while working for Reinhart & Associates, Austin, Texas. He became certified as a level I/II in magnetic particle, and liquid penetrant testing in accordance with American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) standards. In 1989, C.L. became certified as a level I/II in ultrasonic testing in accordance with American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) standards.
In 1994, C.L. became a Nationally Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) license # 94020111. He also performed visual welding inspections and ultrasonic testing of full penetration welded connections on medium and large commercial buildings for Professional Services Industries, Inc., Austin, Texas. Most recently, C.L. has been performing visual welding inspection, ultrasonic, liquid penetrant, and magnetic particle testing as a sub-contractor for RIO Engineering, Austin, Texas, work performed for the Texas Department of Transportation; specifically on fracture critical bridge welded members throughout Texas. He also is performing sub-contractual work for ECS-Limited, Austin, Texas on medium and large commercial buildings.
C.L. believes that education is very important and earned his Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree (1992) and Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (2000), both from South West Texas State University. He became at National Certified Public Manager accredited by the National Certified Public Manager Consortium through The Public Service Academy of Southwest Texas State University in (1997). He earned his Associate of Applied Science in Welding Technology (1987), Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice (2005), and Associate of Applied Science in Fire Technology (2006). He has taught college credit welding classes at Austin Community College and most recently Lonestar College in the Houston area for a combined total of fourteen years.
Lastly, the D and D Team has entered the market of football stadium light pole inspections and developing welding repair procedures.
Kay Domel
Director of Human Resources and Technical Writer
Kay Domel earned her Associate of Art degree (1980) from Blinn College/Brenham, Texas, Bachelor of Teaching (1983) from Sam Houston State University/Huntsville, Texas, Master of Education (2002) from Prairie View A&M/Prairie View, Texas, and lastly, Doctorate of Education (2023) from The University of Southern Mississippi/Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In addition, she has earned several certifications throughout the years in the educational arena: Principal and Superintendent certifications. Kay retired (2023) from Brenham ISD after 32 years of service in a variety of positions: teacher; administrator; and district coordinator. She has been employed with D and D Specialty Inspections, L.L.C., since 2012 as the Director of Human Resources and Technical Writer.
