Nondestructive testing (NDT) is a wide group of analysis techniques used in science and industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component, or system without causing damage.
NDT does not permanently alter the article being inspected. It is a highly-valuable technique that can save both money and time in product evaluation, troubleshooting, and research.
Common NDT methods include ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and liquid penetrant.
NDT is commonly used as a tool in forensic engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, systems engineering, aeronautical engineering, medicine, and art.

An expert witness knows more than an ordinary person.
In court, the party offering the expert witness must lay a foundation for the expert’s testimony.
Laying the foundation involves testifying about the expert’s credentials and experience that qualifies him/her as an expert.
Expert witnesses are qualified according to several factors, including but not limited to the number of years they have practiced in their respective field, work experience related to the case, published works, certifications, licensing, training, education, awards, and peer recognition.

A Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) performs visual inspections and tests on welded steel members that are used when constructing bridges, buildings, and other steel structures. The CWI must be able to evaluate and document defects developed during the welding process. They may be employed by engineering, manufacturing, or construction companies or be self-employed.
